Ten years ago, my family had a portrait made. My mom had it framed and it’s been hanging above their fireplace for years.

This year, we tried to recreate that photo to include all the additional people (and the growing children!) Thanks to my mom’s tri-pod and my uncle who was an excellent button presser, I think we did a pretty decent job. It’s not exactly the same, but the most of the same elements are still there. What do you think?

And of course, it wouldn’t be a family photo session without a few crazies.

Sorry for the lack of picture posts lately. I know my ‘photography only’ readers are like “Come OOOOOONNN already!” And for that, I apologize. But for the sake of simplifiying, this is also a blog where I post personal things. This post, is a personal one.

The past year couple years have been tough. No joke. I feel like Satan has taken everything he’s got and thrown it at my husband and I. Through all the crap that has happened to our close friends, our families, as well as ourselves, I am continuously reminded of God’s love. Sometimes it’s hard to see while I’m in the middle of whatever is happening. But at the end, I can always look back and see His hand over me in every situation. Through the past two years, I’ve also been reminded how much I love my family. Keith and I have the best parents and siblings anyone could ask for. We love them dearly. Seeing them is like a breath of fresh air. I’m also extrememly greatful for our friends. We have amazing friends all over the country who model God’s love for us (and to us) on a continual basis.

So, the past few years have been hard. But I cling to the words of James 1:2-4 – “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

My prayer is that through trials I won’t give up. That I’ll grow in my faith, develop perseverance, and that I won’t forget what I’m thankful for.

I heart smoothies

I love smoothies. When I lived in California it seemed as if there was either a smoothie or frozen yogurt place on every corner. And if there was a corner without one of those stores, there was most defintely a coffee shop. My favorite smoothie is Jamba Juice’s Chunky Stawberry Topper. If you live in a state that’s lucky enough to have a Jamba Juice, you’ve gotta try it. It’ll rock you world. Mmmm. So good!

Because Nashville is Jamba Juice-less, and because I want everyone to experience the joy of smoothies, here’s my super secret awesome smoothie recipe. Now it’s not a secret anymore, but it’s still awesome! =)

P.S. This recipe is great because you use NO ICE, which means is that there are no annoying little ice balls/chunks in your smoothie. It’s actually SMOOTH. What a novel idea, I know!

REALLY GOOD SMOOTHIE RECIPE

Smoothie base (this doesn’t change):

* 1 Banana (I have a hard time keeping bananas stocked at my house, so I use about 2 TBSP of banana flavored protein powder instead. Works great!)

* 1 cup yogurt (I’ve found that you can use vanilla yogurt instead and then omit the 1 tsp vanilla that’s called for below and still get the same flavor result)

Then add:

* 2 cups frozen fruit (The fruits vary according to what flavor you’re going for. Use frozen fruit instead of ice, and it’s way cheaper to buy fresh fruit and freeze it, instead of buying already frozen fruit)

* Juice to just barely cover ingredients (again, type and amount of juice varies for flavor and desired consistency. I’ve found that about 8oz of juice yields the optimum consistency for me, but play around with it and figure out what works for you)

* 1 TBSP honey (or Agave Nectar. Either one works great.)

* 1 tsp. vanilla

~Some good fruit combinations include: raspberries, berry juice and lime. Orange/ carrot juice and extra bananas, and just the good ol’ banana strawberry and apple juice standby.

~ Some other neat combinations I’ve tried that have been ’husband approved’ are: blueberries/pineapples with white grape juice, peaches/mangos and just a few strawberries with orange juice. (I love mangos so I make this one a lot!!) Strawberries and blueberries with orange juice is a good one too.

Try out different combos. If you’ve got a fave that I haven’t already listed, let me know. I love trying new smoothie ideas!!!!

I may have been a little MIA on the blog lately, but I’m still here. Keith and I just got back last night from a 10 day trip visiting friends in Arizona and California. Photos to come later. Right now, I’m getting reacquainted with what real life feels like. So much to do. A woman’s work is never done. {Translation: feel sorry for me} I will, however, leave you with an image I shot at Andy Frank’s CD release concert. More to come soon! Enjoy your week.

Do you remember in middle school, whenever you had a crush on someone, you’d inscribe ‘Mr & Mr’s fill-in-the-blank’ in your best swirly cursive script all over your notebook? Or – for the less ~~desperate~~ obvious – ‘I heart so-and-so’ written on the margins of your notebook paper? Well, I am COMPLETELY crushing on the new wave of photographer bags that have hit the market in recent months. Consider this my ‘swirly cursive script’. Or my big ‘I heart…’

To quote my favorite Santa’s helper, Buddy the Elf:

“I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it!”

The new Epiphanie and Kelly Moore bags are an absolute necessity for any savvy female photog. They’re super stylish and functional and… wait for it… wait for it… will hold your ENTIRE CAMERA BODY, lenses, and accessories! (something currently lacking in my present bag). What makes your heart flutter?

Today, I opened an envelope I received from my mother. This is what I saw:

This is a paper my 7-year-old sister wrote for school. My mother made a copy of it and sent it to me. When I saw it, my eyes watered up and my heart literally started fluttering. That got me thinking, what makes my heart flutter? I thought I’d jot a few things down here.

~ going to see my family

~ spending time with my husband

~ an amazing photoshoot

~ editing and amazing photoshoot

~ anticipating my dog cheerfully greeting me after a long day at work

~ coffee dates with friends

Those are just a few things I thought of. What about you? What makes your heart flutter?
