This Labor Day weekend, the husband and I traveled to Ohio to attend my 10-year high school reunion. I had a wonderful time catching up with people I hadn’t seen in a while. Most of them I hadn’t seen in person (Facebook doesn’t count!) since graduation. And Keith finally got to meet some of the people that knew me before he did! Back when I was the quiet, shy, scared-to-talk-to people “new girl.” Boy have times changed! Hahaha!

My graduating class had about 80 students (small compared to some of you, I know!) and we had about half (35-40) attend the ‘adults only’ shin dig on Saturday night. Then, on Sunday, there was a “family friendly” meet up at the park. One thing is for sure, my former classmates sure did make some stinkin’ adorable kids! Geez! Such rampant cuteness should be outlawed!

Wisconsin Engagement Sneak Peak

Simply put, this couple is AWESOME. So sweet. So in love. So fun! I had a fantastic time shooting their engagement session this week up near Green Bay. Their love and respect for each other was so apparent and so infectious that I couldn’t help but get excited for their upcoming wedding. I’m excited to share a few frames from their session. Just touching base

Just wanted to post a quick montage of photos from my recent family vacation to Florida. If you’re a fan of my Facebook page, you may or may not have seen some of these photos already. Keith and I had an awesome time hanging out with my family. It was such a fun vacation! I’m extremely thankful for each of my family members. They’re pretty much the greatest!!

Also, here’s a sneak peak for a senior portrait shoot that’s in the works. Can’t wait to share this with you guys!!

Ten years ago, my family had a portrait made. My mom had it framed and it’s been hanging above their fireplace for years.

This year, we tried to recreate that photo to include all the additional people (and the growing children!) Thanks to my mom’s tri-pod and my uncle who was an excellent button presser, I think we did a pretty decent job. It’s not exactly the same, but the most of the same elements are still there. What do you think?

And of course, it wouldn’t be a family photo session without a few crazies.

I’m still here

I may have been a little MIA on the blog lately, but I’m still here. Keith and I just got back last night from a 10 day trip visiting friends in Arizona and California. Photos to come later. Right now, I’m getting reacquainted with what real life feels like. So much to do. A woman’s work is never done. {Translation: feel sorry for me} I will, however, leave you with an image I shot at Andy Frank’s CD release concert. More to come soon! Enjoy your week.

A wedding in Birmingham

Shooting a wedding is hard work. It’s face paced and crazy. There’s a lot going on and the main photographer is under insane amounts of pressure to be everywhere at all times, getting those ‘money shots.’ The truth is, one person can only be in one place at one time. That’s why, when I second shoot at a weddings, I try to capture images from different angels or points of view than the main photographer might be getting. The focus of any second shooter should be to ADD to the collection of images that the primary photographer offers their clients. You don’t just want to give them 1000 of the exact same photos they already have. Sometimes, in the hustle and bustle of it all, that’s easier said than done, but I always second shoot with that goal in mind. I think it can end up with some neat results.

Here are a few images I took while helping out my friend and fellow photographer Ashleigh Peak. The wedding was held at Samford University in Birmingham, AL at the beautiful Reid Chapel. It was followed by the coolest art gallery reception in downtown Birmingham. So, wet your wedding whistle here, then go check out some more wedded bliss on Ashleigh’s blog.

Key Biscayne Wedding

Last month, I had the opportunity to second shoot a wedding with my friend and amazing Memphis photographer, Ashleigh Peak. The wedding was held just outside of Miami in beautiful Key Biscayne, Florida. Everything from the rehearsal dinner to the ceremony to the reception was held at the ultra snazzy Ritz Carlton, where the wedding party and guests where staying. Ashleigh and I were able to stay for the weekend as well and had the chance to dine and hang out with the wedding party for a few days.

Everyone involved was incredibly chill and laid back – a photographer’s dream! I can honestly say that this is the first wedding I’ve been a part of where I actually felt more relaxed and refreshed afterwards than I did before.

Thank you Paul and Kelley for allowing me to be a part of your special day. And mucho thanks to Ashleigh for letting me tag along and take pics {and for letting me eat all the chocolate off of the hotel room pillows.} =)

Sneak Peak of Key Biscayne Wedding

This weekend I had an awesome time shooting a wedding with my uber talented friend Ashleigh, in Key Biscayne, FL. Here are some initial edits of a couple images from the weekend. More to come soon. Enjoy!

Ashleigh and I tried out our “poor man’s macro” technique. It’s not exactly the same as using a true macro lens, but it gets the job done when needing a close up ring shot in a pinch.
